For me, the craft is the craft, neither light or dark, one no more than the other, it just is. Dark doesn't necessarily mean sinister or evil, it means the unpleasant side of things, even groce maybe. This is not to say there aren't evil witches :O out there, just as there are evil people. Let's not be so naive as to say there is no evil.
For instance, human anatomy. There would be no human anatomy without the disection of human bodies, which included working with corpses. Did that make it sinister? It was merely a way of conquering the mystery that was the human body and how it worked.
There has been more and more topics about the "dark" side of the craft. It's a coming of age, so to speak. When Wicca came to America they wanted to change the image of the witch to a more positive one. In doing so, parts of the craft were made forbidden and considered dark. One of those things is a witches curiosity for death, which leads us to collect bones, skulls, skins and such. Does this mean we are going to use them for curses? More than likely not. Some are drawn to these things because of the curiosity spoken of earlier.
Mainstream folks are more tolerant of witches in general now and some witches have begun to seek to learn more about certain mysteries that make folks uncomfortable. I hope that mainstream folks learn an acceptance of us because of minds and spirits like ours some of lifes questions have been answered.
